Safety training and certifications help you learn essential skills for work and emergencies. Most jobs require valid, up-to-date certifications and regular training. Staying current also improves your overall preparedness and could potentially save the life of someone you. know.
Here are the standard recommended renewal periods for key safety training in Australian workplaces:
First Aid – Every 3 Years
The Australian Resucitation Council recommends renewing your First Aid certification every three years. Updates to medical research can change procedures and knowledge fades over time. Many employers require employees to hold a current certificate. A valid certificate is also helpful when you are looking to change roles as new employers look favourably upon these qualifications.
CPR – Annually
Update your CPR training every year to retain critical skills. This covers defibrillator use and basic resuscitation. Annual refreshers keep you ready in emergencies.
White Card – Renewals Not Required
White cards dont have a expiry date but should be renewed if you have a break from the construction industry of two years or longer. It is recommeded that you keep your knowledge current by attending general WHS workshops and Toolbox talks regularly.
Fire Training – Every 12 Months
Workplaces should complete fire safety training for all staff at least once every year to meet thie obligations under the WHS Act. This includes practical training on how to use a fire extinguisher and fire blanket. Fire wardens should also undergo redfresher training at least annually.
Fire and Emergency Evacuation Drills– Every 6 Months
Regular evacuation drills ensure staff remember evacuation protocols and can manage an emergency camly and effectively. You can complete one drill per year as a table top ( theoretical) drill, and the other should be a physical drill including the use of alarms. Keep records of the drills and thier outcomes as evidence you are meeting your compliance Standards.
