Level 1 Sports Trainer

The Level 1 Sports Trainer course equips participants with essential skills to ensure safety in sports environments. The course is ideal for club volunteers, coaches, and sports enthusiasts. It covers key areas such as injury prevention techniques, immediate care strategies, and concussion management protocols, making it a valuable asset for anyone involved in sports.

SISSS00118 – Sports Trainer Level 1

Units Delivered:

HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid
SISSSCO015 – Prepare participants for sport competition
SISSSPT001 – Implement sport injury prevention and management strategies

Enrolment options:

Option 1. Enrol in  SISSS00118 – Sports Trainer Level 1 and complete all units as a single course

Option 2. Enrol in any HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid with Excite Safety then enrol in the Course Set- Sports Trainer Level 1 (Pre-requisite: HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid) – SISSSCO015 & SISSSPT001. 

Option 3. If you already hold the HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid from any provider.
Simply enrol in the Course Set- Sports Trainer Level 1 (Pre-requisite: HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid) – SISSSCO015 & SISSSPT001.  You will need to provide evidence of your current first aid certification.

Entry requirements:

An individual undertaking this course will need to demonstrate the following to be eligible for entry:

Physical capability to be able to meet the demands of the practical demonstration skills including CPR and performing rescue breathing techniques on manikins
Participants must wear appropriate attire / undergarments to allow demonstration of different taping techniques (Areas that may be taped include but are not limited shoulders, knees, ankles, hands & feet)

Course content:

  • Work Health and Safety legislation.
  • Understanding and identifying hazards and risks on construction sites.
  • How to control risks and prevent accidents on construction sites

Certificate Renewal Requirements:

  • This certificate does not require renewal, however the Australian Resuscitation Council Guidelines recommend that you renew your CPR certifications annually and your first aid certifications every 3 year

Assessment requirements:

Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks.

  • Planning and preparing a participant for sport competition
  • Supporting a participant in a sport competition
  • Reflecting on preparing participant for a sport competition
  • Perform CPR on an adult (incl. the use of an AED and placing a casualty into the recovery position)
  • Complete a first aid incident report form based on the simulated first aid scenario
  • Perform CPR on an infant
  • Manage a casualty with anaphylaxis
  • Manage a casualty with asthma
  • Manage a choking casualty
  • Manage a casualty with non-life-threatening bleeding and shock, requiring minor wound cleaning
  • Manage a casualty with a nosebleed
  • Manage a casualty with a fracture and dislocation
  • Manage a casualty with envenomation (snake/ funnel-web spider bite)
  • Implement sport injury prevention and management strategies for injuries, illness, and medical condition
  • Sports taping
  • A written assessment consisting of multiple-choice and short answer questions.
